How To Organize A Small Kitchen

Boston Moving Concierge can help with professional staging, organizing, moving, cleaning. and packing for any relocation, move in or move out.

ORGANIZING YOUR SMALL KITCHEN

Organizing a pied-à-terre, a student apartment, and assisted living space or a bachelor pad are all vastly different but the one thing they have in common – a small kitchen area. Having organized small kitchen areas in Boston is quite a feat as there are sometimes awkward or small ceilings which places limits on the amount of functional kitchen items.

Luckily, there are plenty of tricks to help you make the most out of what little space you have!

While many residents in Boston only use their kitchen 1-3 times a week, often opting for one of our amazing restaurants in the city, they still want a well organized space. While I do recommend hiring an Boston organizer, you may find yourself doing this yourself. Here are some DIY small kitchen organizing tips I have utilized in my 15 years of experience:

1) Touch The Ceiling Cupboards

Utilize the space up to the ceiling. If cupboards or cabinets are not an option, this is a great space for baskets, boxes, an extra shelf or small appliances that you don’t use every day. Depending on the style of your space, our team at Boston Moving Concierge can help you organize based on your current needs. Look below as well – installing a nice toe-kick drawer is a great way to add efficiency to your kitchen experience.

2) Vertical Shelf Space

Now it’s time to open all of your cupboards …are you using the full height of each shelf? If not, consider shelf risers, extra shelves, or installing hooks above to hang mugs. Again, our Boston organizing service can provide a consult to show you what is available based on your preferences.

3) Small Spaces

Do you have any gaps or space between cupboards and large appliances? You can take advantage of even the smallest of spaces with half height or full height pull out storage that are just a few inches wide. If you have a bit more space, slim carts on wheels are flexible and can provide extra storage and counter space.

4) Ceiling Space

Are there any areas that would work for extra storage hanging from the ceiling? If your ceilings are high enough, you could use that extra space to hang pots or pans or install hanging ceiling mounted shelves.

5) Backs Of Doors

Check the back of any doors in the area – is there any space to utilize? Sometimes this can look tacky if not done correctly with the right useful materials but can provide a lot of extra storage for smaller items.

8) Wall Space

Hooks, rails, shelves, magnetic strips, and more are available for wall space. Using wall space for a pegboard or home organizer is nice. For a more sleek look a metallic strip hooks for knives is a nice touch. Don’t forget the space behind your sink.

9) Under Cupboards & Shelves

A popular spot for wine glasses is always an option

10) Side of Cupboards or Fridge

If the end of your cupboards are open to the room, that’s a large surface that could be used for extra storage. One of my favorite items are the magnetic spice racks for the side of the fridge.
